PLANO -- With a smaller district, the non-district season is increasingly longer for 8-5A volleyball teams. The lengthy non-district stretch has apparently put Plano ISD squads in the doldrums as all three were defeated Tuesday night.
Plano Senior was the only club to take a game as the Lady Wildcats were defeated by Arlington Lamar, 26-24, 25-15, 29-31, 25-23.
Plano East and Plano West were both swept with the former falling to Flower Mound, 25-18, 25-16, 25-18.
The Lady Wolves got 17 assists from senior Erin McNorton, 14 digs from both senior Berkley Fuller and McNorton as well as 12 kills from senior Rachael Bedell, but to no avail as West was beaten by Red Oak, 25-15, 25-18, 25-15. Red Oak is currently ranked No. 5 in the state in Class 4A by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
All three PISD squads will try to get back in the win column Friday as Plano hosts Lewisville at 7 p.m., East hosts North Mesquite at 6:30 p.m. and West hosts Marcus at 7 p.m.
JV Cats win tournament
It hasnít been all bad news this past week for local volleyball teams though as Planoís junior varsity counterparts won the Arlington Lamar JV Tournament.
Plano rolled through a quartet of opponents Saturday, sweeping all but one along the way.
The Lady Wildcats got started by defeating Arlington Bowie, 25-10, 25-10, and continued their winning ways by besting Arlington Martin, 22-25, 25-19, 25-17.
The semifinals proved no more difficult as Plano polished off Flower Mound Marcus, 25-12, 25-14, before capturing the championship crown with a 25-13, 25-16 win over Grapevine.
